Thanking Bishop Zubik and Welcoming Bishop Eckman

Holy Family Institute Announcement
June 4, 2025
With deep gratitude and joy, Holy Family Institute honors the ministry of Most Reverend David A. Zubik as he retires from his service as Bishop of Pittsburgh and warmly welcomes Most Reverend Mark A. Eckman as the new Bishop of our diocese.
Thanking Bishop Zubik
For over a decade, Bishop Zubik has faithfully guided the people of Pittsburgh with humility, compassion, and a profound commitment to Catholic education and social outreach. His pastoral leadership has strengthened numerous initiatives—bolstering programs at Nazareth Prep and Holy Family Institute, championing vocations, and tirelessly uplifting families and individuals in need. We give thanks for the day he baptized the child of one of our migrant families on the eve of the pandemic, a moment that exemplified his pastoral heart and solidarity with our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. As Bishop Zubik transitions to a well-deserved retirement, we pray that he experiences continued peace, spiritual nourishment, and joy in this new chapter, confident that his example of servant leadership will continue to bear fruit.
Welcoming Bishop Eckman
We rejoice that Bishop Eckman will be installed as the thirteenth Bishop of Pittsburgh on July 14, 2025, at Saint Paul Cathedral. His years of service—as a parish priest, campus chaplain, and Auxiliary Bishop—demonstrate his shepherd’s heart, administrative wisdom, and dedication to evangelization. Beyond his pastoral duties, Bishop Eckman finds renewal in photography, hiking, and skiing—pursuits that reflect his love for creation, family, and quiet moments of prayer. We look forward to collaborating with him as he guides our local church, and we especially hope to host him on the rolling green hills of Nazareth Prep’s campus, where together we will continue nurturing the next generation of Catholic leaders.
Please join us in praying for Bishop Zubik as he embraces retirement and welcoming Bishop Eckman as he begins his episcopal ministry. May the Holy Spirit grant them both abundant grace, and may we, as a community, pledge our support and prayers for them in the days ahead.
