What We Do

Journey of Hope

Providing a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for unaccompanied minors waiting for sponsorship in the United States.

Throughout our long history, Holy Family Institute has always opened our doors to the most vulnerable children.

In the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and flood, we welcomed a group of orphaned children through our Journey of Hope program. Four years later, after an unprecedented surge in the number of children arriving at our southern border without parents or legal guardians, Holy Family Institute reorganized this program to provide supportive services to these unaccompanied minors. Since 2022, Holy Family Institute has also provided Home Study & Post Release Services to children and their sponsors in the United States. Home Studies are conducted by trained trauma-informed case managers to assess the safety of the sponsor's home and support a successful reunification.

Children arrive at Holy Family Institute throughout the year and typically stay with us for 30-45 days before being placed with family members or qualified sponsors. Journey of Hope continues to offer shelter, food, clothing, counseling, recreation, and education to these children, many of whom have endured a long, perilous journey in search of a brighter future. While the plight of these children is heartbreaking, the Journey of Hope staff strives to help them feel safe, loved, and hopeful during their time in our care.
