Nazareth Prep Celebrates 2023 Graduation

The groundbreaking high school will host commencement for its sixth graduating class on June 8^th.

PITTSBURGH – On June 8^th, Nazareth Prep will celebrate the graduation of its sixth senior class. Founded in 2014, the independent, Catholic high school uses creative strategies to bridge the education-to-employment skills gap for students of all backgrounds.

The 28 students of Nazareth Prep’s class of 2023 have had a unique high school experience. Starting freshman year, they spent one full day per week gaining work experience at internships with local Pittsburgh companies. Since the school’s founding, the list of Pittsburgh businesses and organizations that participate in the internship program has grown to more than 70 and includes major employers such as UPMC, Pittsburgh Steelers, First National Bank, LANXESS, Federated Hermes, and Allegheny General Hospital.

Throughout their time at Nazareth Prep, the class of 2023 navigated personalized post-secondary pathways with the help of one-on-one mentorship and guidance, as well as unique career-exploration activities. Students toured Pitt Ohio’s distribution center, attended Pittsburgh Technology Council’s STEM Summit, participated in a presentation on financial wellness by Dollar Bank, and more. Students also began taking culinary classes in the school’s newly renovated culinary classroom.

As their high school experience draws to a close, all of our graduates have exciting opportunities ahead. Out of 28 students, 14 will be attending a 4-year college or university (seven of whom are receiving full-tuition scholarships), 12 are headed to a 2-year college or technical school, one is entering the military, and one is beginning carpentry with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local #432.

“The mission of Nazareth Prep is to prepare the next generation of workers for fulfilling, 21st-century careers while also providing them a rigorous learning environment,” says Dr. Stacy Tweedy, Nazareth Prep’s Vice President of Educational Services. “Though it’s always hard to say goodbye to graduates, we’re excited to watch them continue to succeed as they enter this next chapter in their lives.”

Graduation will take place on Thurs., June 8^th with Dr. Alicia B. Harvey-Smith, President/CEO of Pittsburgh Technical College, as our keynote speaker. The ceremony will be held on Nazareth Prep’s campus in Emsworth, 8235 River Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Media is invited to attend.
